I, Joseph Chism would like to Welcome you to Diplomat Graphics. Our main focus of media is web design. I became interested in web development as a student at University of Michigan-Flint. I was intrigued by the concept of having a website that I built published to the World Wide Web. I also do business cards, logos, photo touch-ups, and fliers etc. Building websites require time and patients on both the designer and customer part. Everyone needs a web site these days. The average consumer is going to want to know if a company or person who is doing business has a website. The answer to that question should and better be yes.

It is the duty of the designer to guide the client in a manner that will ensure the success of the client's vision. The client should profit from the design created to give life to their goals and ambitions. The designer should propose ideas and concepts that are beneficial. A graphic designer has done a job well done when he or she has created a great first impression for the client. Utilizing new technologies, social media and exploring new concepts of design also can aid in the vision. There are a host of web and graphic development programs that assist the designer in showing their skill level. Rather a designer is in-house or freelancing, he or she should feel responsible for the brand created through the corporate identity, a published web site and or any other artful media that advertises the vision.

History of Graphic Design

The term Graphic Design was named by William Addison Dwiggins in the early 20th Century. About 600-250 BC evolution on geometrical shape and structures in Europe played a major role for the development of sketching and designing. The hand written copy of the Christian Bible "The Book of Kells", created by Irish monks in 9th century AD with rich illustrations is a good example of the evolution of graphic design. It wasan applied art of arranging images and text for an attempt of visual communication.

Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg, a German metal-worker and an inventor, introduced a printing technology allowing the re-use of individual letters. The first book produced by Gutenberg press was "The Incunabula". This book became the standard in the history of book printing and publishing. It was a giant leap for printing and publication. Block stamping on sheets of paper with carved text and signs were in use in Europe and Asia long before 14th century. That era has been named the Old Style graphic design. Guttenberg era of graphic design evolution was slothful, until the 19th century. The division created between fine art and applied art boosted this evolution in Britain.

They successfully published some of the most major graphic design products through the Arts movement. William Morris made a great deal of business of publishing books with stylish printings. He contributed a significant role to attract the potential market as well as commercializing graphic design. Morris also was the pioneer for the separation of commercial design and fine arts. Another painter from the19th century was Piet Mondrian. His innovation has greatly influenced today's modern graphic designer.

Though he was not a graphic designer, his use of grids was the origin of modern day advertisement known as the grid system. It is widely used by graphic designer of our century today. Modern graphic design immersed in the early 20th century with designs influenced by fine arts. The trademark of early modern fonts is the sans-serif typeface. The book "New Typography" written by Jan Tschichold in 1928 systemized the philosophy of modern typography.

Furthermore, the fathers of modern graphic design are still considered to be typographers such as Herbert Bayer, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and El Lissitzky. They broke new ground on typography building techniques and stylizing. Modern computer technology has changed typography production altogether. Their experimental and evolutionary approach contribution was highly recognizable. After World War II, graphic design began to boom and flourish.

The American economy thrived, the demand of graphic design, particularly on advertisement and packaging sectors blossomed. The, I Love NY ad campaign in 1973 and a famous Bob Dylan poster in 1968 was designed by Milton Glaser. These are examples of applied graphic design culture and its influence.Progressions in graphic design in the early 20th Century were mostly stimulated by technological development in printing and photography. But at the mid of this century, the raising ofthe computer era in graphic design has faced little backwards as early computers were far weaker and computer memory was limited.

Due to the immense development of computers and its corresponding technologies, modern graphic design has evolved into a business that is done almost entirely on computers. In mid 1980, the arrival of desktop publishing and the launching of software applications like Illustrator and PageMaker introduced an era of designers to computer image manipulation and 3D image creation.Computer graphic design facilitates immediate effects for layouts and or typography.

Today, graphic design, visual communication is yielded in the rich soil of computer ground. It is fertilized with latest hardware and software technologies. Graphic designers worldwide use computers loaded with the latest gadgets, gizmos, software, and hardware to communicate visually. They are generating the new history of graphic design in their design laboratories. Thanks to express increase of the hi-tech industry, the future gives surety more and today's designer are contributing their name and effort through their creativity for the next generation. History yet has to write all of her pages for new innovation and invention in this field.
